The presentation regarding the guideline on juvenile justice held for the investigators of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at “Raddison Blu Iveria” hotel. The event was opened by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Alexander Darakhvelidze and the Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia Vahagn Muradyan.
The Guideline consists of three parts - Psychological Aspects of Juvenile Justice, Juvenile Justice - National Legislation and International Standards and Approaches to Juvenile Justice.
Protecting the interests of juveniles in the administration of justice and increasing the efficiency of ongoing legal procedures through their involvement is main priority for the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Working process on creating an environment tailored to the interests of juveniles is going on unceasingly.
The guideline is an important tool that will be introduced into the daily operations of the ministry, as it will facilitate the work of investigators in the juvenile justice process.
The guideline was developed in the framework of the Council of Europe’s project "Juvenile and Adult Detainees support (JADES)".
Project is implemented since 2019 in close cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and with the support of the Council of Europe. The aim of the project is training of police officers and investigators working with juvenile victims as well as juvenile offenders and supporting better management of the detainees in the Temporary Detention Isolators in line with European standards.
