With the purpose of elaborating standard operative procedures at Temporary Denetion Centers British Human Rights Expert James Murdoch is paying visit to Georgia.
Today, at the Ministry of Internal Affair the meeting was held, which was attended by the representatives of Human Rights Protection and Monitoring Main Division, Agency of Reforms and Development, International Relations Department, Academy of MIA and General Prosecutor’s Office. Issues regarding the conditions of TDIs, procedures and legislation were discussed at the meeting. During the meeting issues connected with conditions and procedures at Temporary Detention Cells and legislation were discussed.
Within the frames of the visit British Human Rights Expert will visit the temporary detention isolators, assess the current situation and analyze the legislation. After that, he will elaborate recommendations to improve the current situation and will ensure the elaboration of SOPs. On the basis of elaborated standard operative procedures MIA Academy will implement new trainings on capacity building for the employees of Human Rights Protection and Monitoring Main Division.
During the visit, Mr. Murdoch will hold meetings with representatives of Non-Governmental Organizations and Public Defender’s Office as well as with advocates.
From 2014 the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia is implementing the project “Capacity Building of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia to Ensure Adequate Human Rights Protection in Isolators of Temporary Detention through Trainings and Introduction of New Standards of Work”, which is financed by the European Union.
The overall objective of the project is to ensure human rights protection in isolators of temporary detention through implementing adequate conditions, trainings for TDI staff and introduction new standards of work.
