On January 2020 the government of Georgia has adopted the action plan for the “Road Safety National Strategy”. Beginning from 2017 the Ministry of Internal Affairs is actively involved in the implementation of the action plan for the “Road Safety National Strategy”.
Throughout 2019, Ministry of Internal Affairs has implemented complex activities within the frames of “Road Safety National Strategy”.
In the beginning of 2019, information campaign “Fore More Life” was launched within the frames of which awareness raising activities targeting the public were implemented through various sources of communication.
Video surveillance system has also been developed. According to the present situation, Ministry of Internal Affairs has installed 4 467 video cameras, including 2 862 with a general view and 1 605 with number deciphering function and 216 sections of speed control, which in total has covered 861 km of the road.
Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has purchased 170 sets of the onboard computers for collecting the actual data enabling the patrol police fleet to be fully equipped with the respective technic.
Along with the covert patrolling, which is implemented by the Patrol Police Department, the practice of the mixed patrolling is also being implemented. The areal of the covert patrolling has also been widened and fully covered Tbilisi, Batumi, Rustavi and Imereti region.
The special software program was also activated by the Ministry, based on which video surveillance system is able to automatically identify and fine those vehicles which have not undergone technical inspection.
Within the frames of cooperation between Eap and the Ministry of Internal Affairs as well as with the assistance of Crash Data Systems and Crash Data Analyses Expert, new platform for registering road incidents has been adopted, enabling to have the unified data base on the road accidents happening throughout the country. Road accidents card falls within the CADaS standards. The mentioned program already operates in Isani-samgori district in pilot mode and enables to collect more detailed information on the factors contributing to the traffic accidents and environmental conditions.
