Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Tchikaidze is paying his first official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany. Within the frames of the visit Minister held meeting with his German colleague Thomas de Maiziere – Federal Minister of Interior. At the meeting sides have signed “The Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany on Cooperation in Combating Organized Crime, Terrorism and Other Serious Criminal Offences”.
The mentioned agreement provides for the cooperation between the parties in the fight against crimes, such as: crimes against life, body and health, terrorism, drug-related crime, illicit trafficking in firearms, trafficking in human beings and illegal migration, crimes against property, corruption, cybercrime, forgery, financial crimes and etc. The agreement envisages operative cooperation, as well as non-operative cooperation, namely: exchange of crime-related information, including criminal intelligence information, conduction of joint criminal intelligence measures, deployment of liaison officers if necessary, sending experts for advanced training and experience sharing, exchange results of criminological and forensic research.
After signing the agreement Federal Minister of Interior of Germany has assessed the agreement and stated that -“Federal government of Germany, presented by me and Georgian government which is presented by my colleague have signed the agreement in the field of security, which is very important. Freedom and security is important for people all around the world, for there is no security without freedom and no freedom without security. There is no such country today which would be capable of ensuring security without international co-operation. I mean security not only in the field of the fight against crime, but as the broader notion. It could be border security, document security, co-operation between police agencies. The aim of today’s agreement is to move the existed co-operation between Georgia and Germany to a higher level. Today this agreement was signed by the Ministers, however implementation of the document will start from tomorrow”.
Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Tchikaidze has thanked his German colleague and talked about the importance of sharing German experience by the Georgian law enforcers: “I would like to thank my colleague, Government of Germany. This is very important for our country in terms of making steps towards Europe. Germany is one of the leading countries that can teach us a lot in practice and experience. Germany has become our partner not only in the fight against crime and security but in many other important fields, where German experience and practice is important. I would like to thank them once again and wish success”.
