Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakkvelidze attended the 3rd Steering Committee of the Council of Europe Project – “Human Rights Compliant Policing in Georgia”.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs – Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia – Stefan Sirbu, Head of Special Investigation Service – Karlo Katsitadze and the Head of the National Prevention Mechanism Department of the Public Defender’s Office – Nika Kvaratskhelia delivered the opening remarks. The managers of various departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also attended the meeting.
Meeting participants summarized the activities carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other partner agencies and discussed the activities to be implemented in the next 9 months within the project.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze noted that in cooperation with the Council of Europe, numerous trainings and studies were conducted in the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the officers holding ordinary and managerial positions in territorial and structural units. Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of the projects implemented by the Council of Europe, as well as summarized essential activities and results.
At the end of the meeting, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze expressed his gratitude towards the Council of Europe (CoE) for the strengthening the capacities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and for the fruitful cooperation over the years.
The project has been carried out in close cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other partner agencies since 2021. It aims at supporting Georgian authorities in monitoring effective and accountable performance of police duties by strengthening human rights standards.
