Ms. Nino Javakhadze, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs hosted the delegation of the Government of Germany. The delegation was headed by Dr. Christian Klos, the Head of Migration, Refugees and Readmission Policy Headquarter of the Ministry of Interior of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues related to visa-free regime with the Eurozone countries.
The main challenge stated by the German side was an increased number of asylum seekers from Georgia in Germany. Ms. Nino Javakhadze introduced to the guests the activities of Georgia aimed at reduction the number of shelter seekers and offences committed by them as well as the legislative initiatives related to surname changing.
The parties discussed the information campaign planned by the Government of Georgia and the decision on granting Georgia the status of a safe country.
It should be noted that last week the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Ms. Nino Javakhadze had an official visit to Germany and Austria where the issues related to visa-free regime violations by the citizens of Georgia and the issues of deepening the existing police cooperation were discussed. In addition, signing of memorandums between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and EUROPOL is scheduled for March, which along with the deployment of a liaison officer means the establishment of a secure channel for exchange of operational information.
