Within the frames of the official visit to Latvia, Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Tchikaidze held meeting with his Latvia colleague- Minister of Interior of Latvia Rihards Kozlovskis. Sides discussed issues of co-operation and euro integration of Georgia.
Within the frames of the visit meetings are planned with heads of National Police of Latvia, State Fire-fighting and Rescue Service and the State Border Guard. Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia actively co-operates with Latvian side particularly in the field of border protection. Within the frames of the visit Minister will get familiarized with activities of the mentioned agency. Sides will share experience in the sphere of border protection and the fight against illegal migration. It is notable that Latvian side has already deployed Attache for Migration Matters to Georgia, who actively cooperates with Georgian colleagues.
There is sufficient legal basis for cooperation with Latvian side. Agreement on cooperation in fighting crime is in force and the agreement on cooperation in the field of emergencies is already signed.
The Minister will familiarize himself with reforms and actions taken by the Latvian law enforcement agencies to bring the system in compliance with the EU acquis.
The visit lasts until 1st August.
