Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Shalva Khutsishvili along with MIA delegation participated in European Police Chiefs forum held at Europol Headquarters. Georgia participated in such an important forum, organized by Europol, for the second time this year.
Topics of discussion included police cooperation between European countries, migration crises related security issues, cybercrime and digital technology development effect.
Within the frames of the forum Georgian delegation held meetings with police officials from New-York, France, Italy, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Spain, Sweden and Brazil. At the meetings police cooperation issues and future plans were discussed. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs acquainted police officials from the partner states with ongoing and scheduled reforms.
In the recent period Ministry of Internal Affairs has made progress towards enhancing cooperation with Europol. In the nearest future agreement on operative and strategic cooperation between Georgia and European police service will be concluded. After signing the agreement liaison officer from Georgia will be sent to Europol HQ. The mentioned agreement will significantly expand capabilities of Georgian law enforcement sphere in terms of international cooperation not only with Europol but also with EU member states.
