Irakli Garibashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia and Aleksandre Chikaidze, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia opened the Temporary Accommodation Center of the Migration Department in Tbilisi. The event was attended by the members of the Government of Georgia and the representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia.
The Migration Department was established in August, 2014 in the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the purpose of regulation of the immigration processes and effective implementation of the obligations envisaged by the Law of Georgia on “Legal Status of Foreigners and Persons without Citizenship”. The Department`s responsibility covers the detection of individuals staying in the territory without any legal document, also their detention and exile from the country. Besides, in compliance with the human rights protection and European standards the temporary accommodation center for the individuals staying without legal documents was built in Kakheti highway, Tbilisi. The building comprises of two floors and assigned for 80 persons being illegally in Georgia. As per the European standards the building has a dining room, the prayer room, library, computer room, also sport and children playgrounds in the yard. Observing the principle of family integration the separate blocks are available for the families; the detainees have the access to the medical and psychological aid, also the Center operates the medical aid rooms. For the purposes of children the Center provides with the relevant conditions for continuous training; besides the mentioned, there are the special rooms adapted for the individuals with limited capabilities as well as for the foreigners with the risk of self-injury which may create the threat to his/her surroundings.
The Center is equipped with all necessary technique and furniture. After the opening ceremony the gusts had a tour around the Temporary Accommodation Center; they had a conversation with the personnel of the Center, got familiarized with the regulations and the specificity of operation of the Migration Department.
The reforms implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the field of migration shall support effective management of the migration process, which, in its turn, shall be the one more step forward to successful implementation of the measures envisaged by the final phase of the visa liberalization action plan.
