The Fifteenth Meeting of the State Commission Supporting Suppression of Distributing New Psychoactive Substances was held at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. The State Commission is composed of representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs and Ministry of Finance of Georgia. At the Meeting the agencies, within the scope of their competences, presented information on situation related to illicit traffic in new psychoactive substances existing in the country. According to the Ministry of Finance data, no case of smuggling NPS through the border was detected in July; this was the case in previous month as well.
Since the entry into force of the Law of Georgia “On New Psychoactive Substances”, State Commission conducts meetings systematically, on monthly basis, and carries out permanent monitoring over the implementation of respective legislation and over the challenges related to new psychoactive substances in Georgia.
At the Meeting representatives from respective agencies positively assessed the implementation process of the legislation. Moreover, effectiveness of the state measures carried out in the drug policy and the active work of the law enforcement in revealing and conducting NPS seizures within the framework of the fight against illicit traffic in drugs, were further highlighted at the Meeting.
