The Ministry of Internal Affairs has completed search and rescue operations at the site of the collapse of a residential building in Batumi.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri discussed the recent situation on the ground in details with media representatives regarding the search-and-rescue operation and its final results.
According to the Minister, the relevant police forces will remain at the site of the collapse of the residential building in Batumi to control the security norms on the spot.
"First of all, I would like to express my condolences to the families of the diseased. It is a very difficult situation. 9 people are dead and I would like to offer my condolences to everyone. Yesterday was the hardest day just like today. We have just found the body of the ninth victim.
We assume that no one is missing at the moment and therefore, search activities will be suspended. There are three minors among the diseased persons. Three people have been detained as I told you before and the investigation is underway.
"Police will stay at the scene. It is expected that this street will be closed to prevent movement of civilians. Barriers will be arranged in the backyard as well to prevent people from entering the area, which might pose a threat" – stated Vakhtang Gomelauri.
Up to 400 firefighters and rescuers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and representatives of various police units worked throughout 29 hours during the search-and-rescue operation at the site of the collapse of a residential building on 26 May Street in Batumi.
