The "112" Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia became the winner for the third time for its contribution to preservation of human life among 82 countries.
"112" of Georgia was recognized as the best in the nomination - "innovative service" with SMS and video call service at the European Emergency Number Association`s (EENA) annual awards ceremony held on April 6 in Prague.
The "112" Department of the MIA constantly works on introduction of innovative services and alternative channels of communication. In case of emergency unhampered contact with “112” of each individual residing in Georgia is extremely important for the Emergency Response Center. For this purpose, in 2015 the "112" of Georgia introduced the SMS and video calls service.
New service gives opportunity to deaf and hearing impaired persons independently contact the unified emergency number. SMS and video call service is available 24 hours a day. The service is free of charge and covers the whole territory of Georgia. Alert notifications are received by operators- translators into sign language. In order to use the service pre-registration on the website www.112.ge. is needed.
The Project was implemented in compliance with the EU standards via assistance and support of the UN Development program and the Government of Sweden.
The European Emergency Number Association annually conducts the awards ceremony in different countries. The special awards were given to individuals, organizations, dispatchers and emergency response centers actively involved in improvement and popularization of the unified emergency number –“112”.
The awarding ceremony in Prague along with the representatives of the “112” Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia was attended by more than 600 delegates from 82 countries, the experts in the field of emergency assistance, the members of the European Parliament, Internationals Organizations and Associations. After the ceremony, the guests visited the exhibition and got familiarized with the latest technologies and achievements in the field of emergency management.
On September 3, 2013 Georgia became an official and full member of the European Emergency Number Association (EENA).
