The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia takes concrete measures in terms of conformity with the European standards. The Ministry actively cooperates with the Council of Europe. Georgia became a member of the Council of Europe in 1999.
The fundamental principles of the Council of Europe are as follows: Protection of human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
Main structure of the organization is as follows:

- Commissioner for Human Rights;
- Secretary General;
- European Court of Human Rights
Major committees on the monitoring of human rights, set up on the basis of the Conventions adopted by the Council of Europe, are as follows:
- Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human beings (GRETA);
- European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment pr Punishment (CPT);
- Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (FCNM);
- European Committee of Social Rights (ESC).
