Cooperation between Georgia and the European Union (EU) was launched in 1991-1992. On April 22 1996, Partnership and Cooperation agreement (PCA) was signed between the EU and Georgia in Luxemburg. The agreement covered various areas, committing the parties to cooperate in order to achieve certain political and socio-economic goals.
